Summer Alp is a final year undergraduate at the Royal College of Music, London, specialising in Historical Performance. She is studying the recorder with Ashley Solomon, Julien Feltrin and Maria Martinez Ayerza, and the baroque oboe with Gail Hennessey. She is a RCM Scholar supported by an Ian Evans Lombe Award, and is generously supported by Help Musicians UK.
Since joining the RCM Historical Performance Faculty in September 2013, Summer has performed in masterclasses with the acclaimed period ensemble Florilegium and internationally renowned recorder players Walter Van Hauwe and Carin Van Heerden and Dorothee Oberlinger.
She is a regular member of the RCM Baroque Orchestra, playing in venues such as The Amaryllis Fleming Concert Hall, St Clement Danes Church, St Paul's Church Covent Garden and The National Portrait Gallery. Additionally, she traveled to Bolivia in May 2016 to tour with the RCM Baroque Ensemble as part of the International Festival of Renaissance and Baroque Music 'Missiones de Chiquitos'.
Before attending the RCM Summer won the Paul Neville Award in the Marlowe Young Musician of The Year 2012 and was the Canterbury Festival Foundation Bursary Winner and Ambassador for The Arts 2012-2013. She also performed at The House of Lords in May 2013.
As a member of the Whitstable Recorder Ensemble she has won an award for 'Outstanding Performance' at the National Finals of Music for Youth 2011, performed with The Philharmonia Orchestra in the Royal Festival Hall, including a solo role, in May 2012 and traveled to Cologne, Germany where she performed at the European Recorder Teachers Association annual conference in September 2013.
Summer is currently enjoying studying historically informed performance practice in solo, chamber and orchestral playing (including baroque dance), and, since she has begun playing more and more renaissance and medieval repertoire, has become interested in the musicology of these periods of musical history. Additionally, Summer is beginning to organise projects herself, in partnership with colleagues. Most recently the team produced an innovative semi-staged performance of Handel's Theodora in the RCM Amaryllis Flemming Concert Hall.
Summer is available for bookings for a range of events and recitals both as a soloist and chamber musician, for more information please fill in the enquiry form.
